setmqcap (set capacity units)

Purpose

Use the setmqcap command to set your current purchased capacity units.

To fulfil the conditions of your license agreement with IBM, you must have purchased sufficient capacity units for the number of processors on which you are running WebSphere MQ. The installation dialog checks for this when you install WebSphere MQ, and you can set or reset it using the setmqcap command.

How to calculate how many capacity units you need

The number of capacity units you need to have purchased is based on the number of processors on which you are running WebSphere MQ servers.

For UNIX and Intel servers, the relationship between processors and capacity units is:

Server Capacity units required
Intel Uniprocessor machines 2
Intel 2-way SMP machines and RISC 1-2 processors per box/Symmetrical Processor (SP) node 4
Intel/RISC 3-8 processors per box/SP node 8
Intel/RISC 9-23 processors per box/SP node 16
Intel/RISC 24 or more processors per box/SP node 30
Note:For the purposes of calculating capacity units, Intel machines includes compatible processors such as Cyrix and AMD.

Syntax

>>-setmqcap---CapUnits-----------------------------------------><

Required parameters

CapUnits
A positive integer, stating the number of capacity units that you have purchased. The number you enter is saved in a file in the \qmgrs\@SYSTEM directory. WebSphere MQ also calculates your capacity unit requirement based on the processor formulas shown above. If your capacity units are not sufficient for the number of online processors on which you are running WebSphere MQ, a warning message (insufficient capacity units) is output. A message is placed in the error log indicating the value entered on the command.

Use a value of -1 to specify that you have group enablement, which allows use of the server through an enterprise-wide agreement, or other multi-server agreement, not administered or tracked at the individual server level. This value disables further checking of capacity units on this machine.

The default value, zero, indicates that you have purchased the media with no capacity units.
